A Montmartre Wine Tasting to Remember

Montmartre always has a way of surprising people. On one of my recent wine tours, I met a small group who didn’t know what to expect. Most had never been on a wine tasting before, and a few weren’t even sure they liked wine. That’s the beauty of Montmartre—it’s not just about the wine; it’s about the experience and the people you meet.

Starting with a Hidden Secret
We began near Clos Montmartre, Paris’s last remaining vineyard. It’s a tiny, tucked-away spot that most people don’t even know exists. I explained to the group how Montmartre used to be covered in vineyards and how this little plot is still making wine today, even if it’s more about tradition than taste.

I always get the famous question : “Does the vineyard make good wine?” “Can we visit it?” People are curious, and I love sharing what I know. While the vineyard itself isn’t open to the public, its story sets the tone for the rest of the tour.

The First Tasting
Our first stop was at a small wine bar with a warm, welcoming vibe. The sommelier poured a crisp Sauvignon Blanc, and I guided the group through the basics: look, smell, taste. It’s always fun watching people realize there’s so much more to wine than just drinking it (although drinking is the best part)

One guest, was amazed at how much she could pick up just from the aroma she said she "could actually smell citrus!” as if she’d just unlocked a hidden skill.
Moments like that are what make guiding so rewarding.

Pairing Wine with Food
At the next stop, we tried a light Pinot Noir paired with goat cheese and fresh bread. I explained how pairing works and encouraged everyone to experiment: a sip of wine, a bite of cheese, then another sip.
The reactions were great. “I never thought cheese could change the taste of wine so much,” one guest said. It’s such a simple concept, but it feels like a revelation when you experience it for the first time.

Ending with a View
We wrapped up the tour on the steps of the Sacré-Cœur, Champagne in hand. It’s my favorite part of the tour. Watching the group relax, laugh, and take in the view of Paris is always a highlight.

One guest said, they've been to Paris before, but never experienced it like this. That comment stuck with me. That’s what makes this job special—helping people connect with the city in a way they’ll always remember.

What I’ve Learned as a Guide :

Wine tasting isn’t just about wine. It’s about slowing down, sharing stories, and discovering something new. Montmartre, with its history, charm, and incredible views, is the perfect place to do that.
Every group is different, but one thing is always the same: by the end of the tour, everyone is smiling, holding their glass a little higher, and feeling a little more connected to Paris. And as a guide, there’s nothing better than that.
